Fire Prevention Division
Fire Prevention Division's mission statement: "To advise, educate and train the citizens of Oakville in fire prevention and safety so that the results will be a reduction in the number and severity of fires."
The Oakville Fire Prevention Division is responsible for:
- public fire safety education
- inspection duties
- fire investigation
- code enforcement
- plans review
There is a strong consensus in the fire service industry that public education is key to making and maintaining safe communities. The Fire Prevention Division receives many requests each year from citizens, industry, businesses, organizations and community groups for fire safety presentations to provide Fire Prevention education.
Here are some popular Fire Prevention Programs:
Risk Watch The Fire Prevention Division, in cooperation with neighbouring fire departments, launched the Risk Watch Program. Risk Watch a children’s safety education program, now part of the public school curriculum. School boards, in partnership with the Oakville Fire Department, ensured that more than 5,500 children in Oakville received Fire Safety education.
Arson Prevention The Oakville Fire Prevention Division is involved in the Arson Prevention Program for Children (TAPP-C). This program offers support for families with children who play with fire. All calls are strictly confidential and should be directed to the Fire Prevention Division.
Home Fire Safety Awareness 90% of all fire deaths happen in the home. The Home Fire Safety Awareness Program is designed to educate residents about the importance of fire safety in the home.
